Building a Haircare Routine

Hey everybody, it is the one and only, it is your favorite stylist here, it is Melanie Day with You've Got Curls and Hairloss Center. As always I am bringing you the right information, about the right products, the right technique, and how to use the products correctly.

So today's topic is something I've been getting a lot of questions about. What’s the point of a haircare routine? Like, does it even matter? Can’t I just do whatever to my hair? So let’s talk about that.

If you really think about it, most of what we do is a routine. Whether we planned it for ourselves or not, we have a daily routine for eating, caring for our kids, spending time with our families, checking our emails, whatever it is that you do. When something is scheduled, it usually gets done.

And what usually happens when you go off your routine? Say there's a time change or a holiday. or something unplanned just happens? We kind of get thrown off track, and it takes us a little bit of time to get back to what we were doing before. It takes us a while to get back into the routine.

We’d never argue that a routine for most of the other things we do in life isn’t important, so why are we so hesitant to create structured routines with our haircare?

So that's why having a structure with our haircare is so important and that gets to the heart of the reason I created In Living Curls Haircare Community. I want to help women of color build the right haircare routine, using the right products for their hair, and give people back the power to make informed decisions as a consumer.

I mean, I’m a professional and even I get overwhelmed sometimes by the number of products there are available. There are these huge companies that specialize in getting us to believe their products are all-natural and good for you. It’s a huge industry and they spend millions of dollars telling us all the right words. No shade to them, that’s their job, but there are so few companies that actually have the certifications that show they’re actually going to be a holistic treatment for you.

So let me teach you how to care for your hair and your scalp, let me show you how to understand its needs, and teach you how to cut through the marketing and use your products to achieve your goals.

And our haircare routine doesn’t have to be complicated, ain’t nobody got time for all these crazy methods that have you using 16 to 20 products in a day. I know I don’t, I have a life to live and I know you do too. You really should only have to shampoo your hair, cleanse your scalp, condition, use a leave-in, and use your styling products according to what style you’re wearing your hair in and how much heat you’re using.

So let’s make our lives simple, and build a routine together. And let's make the lives of your friends and your families simple too. If you resonate with what I’m saying and you think they will too, sharing is caring. Bring your loved ones to this community I’ve built and share the knowledge with them. We would love to have you.

I’ll talk to you again really soon,

Melaine.
